Airflow, most likely: a fan, a damper, or frost. See fridge causes in depth.
Air leaking in or a defrost system that stopped working. Doors and heaters, checked in that order.
Valve, line, filter, or a freezer too warm to cycle. Well-water scale is the local favorite.
Sensors that lie and seals that leak show up as a temperature that will not settle.
Pump traps jam on coins and socks more often than motors die. The trap check comes first.
Vent first, parts second. Restricted airflow writes most long-dry stories.
Hoses, pumps, and door boots. In freeze season, suspect a split hose before anything exotic.
A front-load boot that never dries. Cleaning helps; habits prevent.
Filters, spray arms, and Arrington well-water scale, roughly in that order.
Elements develop dead spots; sensors drift. A thermometer tells the truth.
Wet or dirty burner heads, tired igniters, tired spark modules. Usually a modest fix.
A jam until proven otherwise. Power off, no fingers, call if the hex check fails.
Four symptoms skip the queue: water actively escaping, food warming in dead refrigeration during hot weather, burning smells or visible sparking, and a persistent gas smell. Those go to emergency appliance repair at any hour. Everything else can be diagnosed calmly, and our cost guide will help you budget for it.
Appliance safety recalls and hazard notices are published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission; if a symptom matches a recall notice for your model, mention it when you call.
The most useful sentence a customer can say is what changed, and when. "The dryer got louder over two weeks, then stopped heating Tuesday" narrows a diagnosis before we open a toolbox. Note error codes exactly as displayed, take a photo of the model plate inside the door or on the back, and mention recent events: outages, moves, plumbing work, a new water softener. Appliances fail in context, and context is diagnostic gold.
Video helps too. A ten-second clip of the noise your washer makes on spin tells a technician more than three adjectives. Keep it safe: film from a normal distance, never open a cabinet, and never film a sparking appliance twice. Bring the clip to the visit or describe it on the call to our contact line, and check the cost guide for what the likely fixes run.
New noises are information: squeals point to belts and rollers, grinding to pumps and bearings, clicking to relays and igniters. A noise that is getting louder week by week is a part wearing toward failure, and earlier is cheaper.
Often not. A power surge, a water pressure change, or a softener failure can hit several appliances together. Mention it when you call; it changes the diagnosis for all of them.
